Some human foods just don’t make any sense to dogs right away. Especially the ones that require a specific technique to eat. Cactus is a rescue dog originally from the California desert, so he probably hasn’t seen many backyard BBQs in his day. In a new clip posted by @cactustherescue, his dad, Michael, decides it’s time for him to try corn on the cob for the very first time. The setup is pretty professional, with forks holding the cob steady so it doesn’t roll away. But as we see in the video, this rescue pup is just totally confused by the whole thing, especially how to eat corn.
Video of rescue pup eating his first corn ends adorably
He comes right up to it in the dining room. But he has absolutely no idea how to eat it. He just starts licking it. His dad asks him what it is, trying to encourage him. Cactus keeps licking the ends. He doesn’t realize he can actually bite down on it. “It’s corn buddy,” his dad tells him. The licks get more intense because he clearly likes the taste.
But the mechanics are tricky. He gets frustrated. “Just licking it… staring at it… licking it again,” the caption reads. He actually walks away like the corn “personally offended him”. He was ready to give up entirely. His dad calls him back for one more try.
And he decides to give it another shot. He starts figuring it out little by little. He tries to take a tiny bite from the corner. And then it clicks. “There he goes, oh he’s got it,” his dad says in the video. Once he takes that first real bite, it is nonstop munching. He wanted to take down the whole thing himself. We watch in the video as he gets intensely into eating the corn. The close-up of him chomping with his little scrunchy nose is so funny.
Eventually, his dad has to step in. “Okay… That’s enough corn for you,” he says, taking away the half-eaten cob. Cactus did some serious damage. The post has almost 20,000 likes. People love seeing these “first” moments for this rescue pup. It’s nice watching him learn to trust the world little by little. Someone in the comments pointed out the struggle of not being able to floss after all that corn, which is a very valid point.
