I wrote about the topic of glucose recently and in response, received a number of email questions that suggest confusion still reigns.
Poor glucose regulation results in too much glucose in the bloodstream, and this can be caused in two different ways. In Type 1 diabetes, the pancreas gland is not working properly to release insulin. Insulin is necessary to escort glucose into the cells, and without insulin, glucose remains in the blood. Type 1 diabetes typically is detected early in life and of all the diagnosed diabetics in the U.S., only about 5% are Type 1 diabetes.
