Cheboygan Winter Fun Day planned with cocoa, Shiver on the Straits

CHEBOYGAN — Whether you come to stay toasty or to leave with a chill, there’s something for everyone in downtown Cheboygan this weekend.

The Cheboygan Winter Fun Day is set to kick off in downtown Cheboygan with a family cocoa crawl before the Shiver in the Straits event on Saturday, Jan. 13.

The day kicks off at 11 a.m. with a Family Cocoa Crawl. Between 10:50 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., people will be able to pick up their Cocoa Connoisseur Passport in Festival Square.

People participating in the Family Cocoa Crawl will be able to get stamps on their passports by visiting local downtown businesses.

People who get five stamps on their passport — each stamp given by sampling cocoa at a participating business — can turn in their passport for a chance to win a Downtown Cheboygan Gift Basket valued at more than $200. Passports must be turned in by 2:10 p.m. for a chance to win the basket.

At 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Shiver in the Straits will kick off, where people will run into the Straits of Mackinac to raise money for Special Olympics Area 33.

Shiver in the Straits is scheduled for Jan. 13 in Cheboygan.

Registration is at 12:30 p.m. Individual jumpers are asked to make a $50 donation, or teams of five can make a $200 donation.

Cash, card and check will all be accepted on the day of the jump.
