BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A 63-year-old Cocoa man is facing up to 30-years prison for criminal charges involving leaving the scene of an accident with a death and leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.

Kenneth McGhee, 62, turned himself in to police on Friday where he was booked into the Brevard County Detention Center, then released from jail under a $30,000 bond.

Police say on May 26, just after 9 p.m., police officers responded to a reported vehicle crash at SR-520 and Washington, involving two pedestrians.

“When officers arrived, they found two juvenile victims ages 14, and 4, in the roadway with serious injuries,” said Yvonne Martinez of the Cocoa Police Department.

Both victims were taken to the hospital.

Two days after the crash, the 4-year-old boy died from his injuries. The 14-year old girl is recovering, but will have lifelong impacts from her injuries.

“According to witnesses, the juveniles were crossing the highway when they were hit,” said Martinez.

“The driver of the pickup truck that hit the children fled the area.”

Police say about 15-minutes after the crash, the driver contacted police to report he was involved in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
