Former Gibson Southern boys basketball coach and Madison-Grant High School all-time leading scorer Kyle Runyan was named to the 2022 Silver Anniversary team by the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in a press release last week.
Runyan was a 1997 Indiana All-Star averaging 25.2 points as a senior in high school.
In addition to his All-Star senior season, he averaged 21.7 points as a junior at Madison-Grant during the team’s 21-4 sectional championship season.
He set Madison-Grant school records of 1,579 career points, 43.4% career 3-point shooting average, 604 points in a season and 45 points in a single game.
After high school, Runyan played four seasons at the University of Evansville, where he helped lead the Purple Aces to an appearence in the 1999 NCAA Tournament. The program has not been back to the tournament since.
Runyan went on to coach at Pike Central from 2009-2012, where he posted a 20-70 record in four seasons. He began his seven-year tenure as Titans head basketball coach during the 2014-15 season.
He posted a 65-93 record at Gibson Southern and guided the program to a share of the Pocket Athletic Conference title in 2017.
The father of two resigned as Titans head basketball coach following the 2020-21 season but remains at Gibson Southern as a business teacher.
