10 Harsh Realities Of Eating The Human-Human Fruit

The Human-Human fruit, also known as the Hito Hito no Mi, is a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that was eaten by none other than Tony Tony Chopper of the Straw Hat Pirates. With this fruit, Chopper gained the ability to transform into a human and a hybrid at will.

Although this Devil Fruit makes Chopper better, just like every other Devil Fruit does for users in One Piece, it certainly isn’t among the very best Devil Fruits out there, and the downsides only get worse if it’s a human who eats the fruit. The Hito Hito no Mi has several negatives that make it one of the worst Devil Fruits one could eat.

10 It Doesn’t Grant Powers If Eaten By A Human

The Hito Hito no Mi works quite well for Chopper because he’s a reindeer, but if a human ate this fruit, it would be quite a useless power to have, given they are already what the fruit offers. According to Oda, the Hito Hito no Mi won’t change anything in the person who eats them, nor make them stronger. Given that this is the strongest asset of the Zoan class of the Devil Fruits, eating the Hito Hito no Mi is pretty much wasted.

9 The Hito Hito No Mi Might Just Make A Person Wiser

Since the Hito Hito no Mi was useless when eaten by a human, Oda was asked what would happen to the human who ate it, and jokingly, he replied that the person would eventually gain enlightenment and become wiser. It’s interesting to note that Oda said this jokingly so it isn’t certain whether this would actually happen or not. Even if it did, it certainly isn’t a big power when compared to all the other Devil Fruits.

8 The Hito Hito No Mi Would Have No Hybrid Form

All Zoan-type Devil Fruits offer a hybrid form to their users, which is also usually the go-to form when it comes to close-quarters combat. However, if a human ate the Hito Hito no Mi, they wouldn’t even get a hybrid form because they’re human to begin with. Essentially, the Hito Hito no Mi takes away one of the biggest advantages of having a Zoan-type Devil Fruit, which is quite a waste for the person who eats it.

7 The Fruit Wouldn’t Have A Decent Awakening

All Devil Fruits have a special level that is only unlocked when the user manages to push beyond the limits of what their Devil Fruit offers them, called Awakening.

When Awakened, Devil Fruits work very differently and start affecting things that they normally wouldn’t. Sadly, for the Hito Hito no Mi, the Awakening wouldn’t do anything significant as it would just make the user wiser at the most.

6 The User Of This Devil Fruit Loses Their Ability To Swim

The Hito Hito no Mi not only comes with its own disadvantages, but also with those that come with every Devil Fruit out there. As with all other Devil Fruits, the user of the Human-Human Fruit loses their ability to swim. Not gaining any powers and losing the ability to swim is a very bad exchange. It works in Chopper’s case, but it would be unwise for any human to eat the fruit.

5 Sea Prism Stone Weakens The User Of This Devil Fruit

Sea Prism Stone is the weakness of every single Devil Fruit user in One Piece. In essence, it gives off the same wavelength as the sea itself, making it a major weapon against those who possess Devil Fruit powers. Just a mere touch of sea prism stone weakens people. In the case of the user of the Hito Hito no Mi, this is equally true, and they’ll lose all their strength upon touching this substance.

4 Chopper Has To Rely On A Drug To Get Stronger

To make the most of his Devil Fruit power, Tony Tony Chopper created a drug called Rumble Ball, that allows him to access several extra transformations and makes this Devil Fruit much better.

While this is great, it isn’t convenient because not everyone would be able to develop a drug to make themselves stronger. It also has some side-effects and the power-up is only temporary, once again showing that it isn’t all that usable.

3 Monster Point Paralyzes The User Of This Fruit

Thanks to the Rumble Ball, Chopper was able to access an incredibly powerful form of this Devil Fruit, known as Monster Point. Using this form, Chopper gains tremendous strength and is able to defeat even strong people relatively easily. However, this form also paralyzes the user afterward, making it a double-edged sword. What’s more, it took Chopper years to master this form and he used to lose control of his senses whenever he accessed it before the timeskip.

2 Chopper Turns Into Baby Geezer After Overusing His Monster Point

Old Man Baby Side Effect

Chopper was able to make the Hito Hito no Mi stronger with the help of Caesar Clown, and together, the two managed to increase the duration of the Hito Hito no Mi to 30 minutes, which was a significant increase and enough time for Chopper to defeat most enemies. However, one of the worst side-effects is that he becomes a baby geezer after using it. Had Tristan and Miyagi not been there to help him, Chopper would’ve found himself in a lot of trouble in Wano.

1 The Fruit Doesn’t Offer A True Human-Like Appearance To Chopper

Although the Hito Hito no Mi works great for Chopper as it makes him much stronger and gives him the qualities of a human in a reindeer’s body, it doesn’t actually give him a human-like appearance. When Chopper ate this Devil Fruit, he was hurt by humans and mistaken for a monster, which is one of the saddest realities of eating a Devil Fruit like the Hito Hito no Mi.
