Junior hockey: Wilderness blanked by Steel

DULUTH — The Minnesota Wilderness couldn’t turn significant shot advantages into goals on Saturday, resulting in a 3-0 shutout loss to the Chippewa Steel on Saturday, Jan. 8 at Northwoods Credit Union Arena in Cloquet.

Minnesota had shot advantages of 15-7 and 10-6 in the first two periods but went to the locker room down 2-0 thanks to goals from Sam Frandina and Ryan Remick in the first period.

The Wilderness still couldn’t fool Chippewa goaltender Croix Kochendorfer in the third. He went on to make 31 saves. Konrad Kausch made 21 saves for Minnesota.

The Wilderness (15-18-1) return to the ice on Friday in Cloquet for the first of four consecutive games against the Minnesota Magicians.
