Hangover cure: Milk thistle and red ginseng tea can help

The health portal Adio has some alternative tips for your sore head the morning after. These tips will hopefully provide some relief to your pulsing temples and aching limbs, allowing you to bounce back into the day with almost the same vigour as you entered the night. Adio, founded by two Doctors, is based on the belief that health and wellness is about more than just your DNA. Instead, they look at new approaches and build off those so you can build a better life.

The first of their recommendations is something called milk thistle.

Not related to the milk you pour on your cereal in the morning, milk thistle is a herb that you can take before you start drinking to protect your liver.

Avoid taking if you are allergic to artichokes, ragweed, marigolds, chrysanthemums, kiwi fruit or any other niche plants.

Their second tip is activated charcoal.

Like milk thistle, this is something you take before you start drinking.

Used for centuries it can be used to calm upset stomachs and soak up some of the effects of over-consuming alcohol.

The third substance they suggest is called N-Acetyl Cysteine, or NAC for short.

This is an antioxidant used to treat inflammatory conditions and has been shown to reduce headaches, nausea and anxiety.

If you’re after something with a less scientific sounding name, try red ginseng tea.

Adio says that this ancient Chinese hangover cure boosts the immune system and energy levels.

This type of tea is also a nerve relaxant containing B vitamins and Vitamin C.

The company says it can potentially “stop you worrying about what you did last night”.

More traditional remedies for a hangover include drinking lots of water to rehydrate your body and resting as much as possible.

These suggestions from Adio certainly provide food for thought when it comes to the next morning after.

Furthermore, even though a bagel full of bacon and drenched in ketchup with a cup of coffee may be a lot more fulfilling, these hangover cures will be better for you in the long run.

On the other hand, with Covid cases rising, you may decide to avoid drinking altogether.
