INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — You may be familiar with the phrase “winners drink milk,” and Indiana student athletes have a chance to put that into practice.
The American Dairy Association Indiana and the Indiana High School Athletic Association have announced milk as the IHSAA’s new official beverage.
The American Dairy Association has long been a partner with the State High School Marching Band Championships, but this is a little different.
“There are over 160,000 high school athletes in the state of Indiana. It’s very important for us to make those touch points along students’ lives of why milk is important,” Brooke Williams, the Communications Director for the American Dairy Association Indiana, said.
Williams joined WISH-TV on Daybreak to discuss the three-year partnership, which will see milk present at all state athletic finals.
“You know how important those state finals are, and to have milk as part of the trophy for those celebrations. Nothing is better if you’re a Hoosier,” she said.
When it comes to offering nutritional value to young people, particularly athletes, milk fits the bill. That’s according to Kerry Estes of Estes Dairy Farm, who joined Williams on Daybreak.
“Milk is loaded with protein for muscle recovery. It is one of the best electrolytes that a person can have. You get everything, carbohydrates, for building back all the way at the cellular level. So, these athletes can know that drinking milk and other dairy products are refueling their body for good.”
Perhaps it’s time to invest in a cow.
The American Dairy Association Indiana are scheduled to be at the following state finals:
“We try to make our presence and represent all of the dairy farm families, and why milk is important in all of kids’ lives, whether they’re in kindergarten all the way up to these high school athletes,” Williams added.
And the most important reminder on why milk is so important? Winners drink milk!
