- Hazel was the owner of Shop Therapy in Provincetown.
- His house, known as “The Hazel House,” is now for sale for $4.8 million.
- Instagram users, both those familiar with Provincetown and those not, praised the house and its late owner.
The real estate social media account Zillow Gone Wild featured the bright yellow and green house of the late Provincetown icon, Ronald “Ronny” Hazel, on Oct. 31.
Hazel was a “legend” in Provincetown, residents told the Cape Cod Times in May. He was the owner of Shop Therapy, a retail store that has been a staple of Provincetown since 1974. Hazel sold everything from tie-dyed T-shirts to tapestries, vintage postcards to tactical handcuffs, mini bongs to two-foot-tall hookahs, sex toys to sterling silver.
Hazel passed away on May 25 and his house, known as “The Hazel House,” is now for sale for $4.8 million.

“This Provincetown home was built around 1870,” Zillow Gone Wild posted. “The owner, who recently passed away was a ‘beloved icon in P town’ and ‘Hippie Maestro of Shop Therapy.’”
Where is The Hazel House?
The Hazel House is in the heart of Provincetown, close to beaches and the town’s art district.
Its address is 4 Center Street, Provincetown, MA.
Hazel House is a ‘living work of art’
The Hazel House was originally built in 1870 as a resident for clergy for the Center Methodist Episcopal Church, according to the home’s listing on Zillow.
Hazel transformed the building in the 1990s into a “living work of art” with a sculpture and crystal garden that includes stone arches, volcanic Buddhas, crystal inlaid walls and works from notable artists.
Inside the home, there are four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. All the bedrooms have ocean views, and each room of the house is filled with artwork.
The home also has a third-floor deck from which you can see the ocean and Commercial Street.
The Hazel House ‘bright enough to be seen from space,’ say Instagram commenters
Instagram users, both those familiar with Provincetown and those not, praised the house and its late owner.
“I admire the courage of people whose home exteriors are bright enough to be seen from space,” said user @oakpool.
“This is tame compared to the outside of his store,” user @chelseaienello replied. “Being bold isn’t courageous when you’re a stone cold weirdo (in the MOST positive use of the word) he really just lived his life how he wanted. RIP Ronny.”
“Love walking by this house when I’m in PTown. I hope the new owner keeps it weird! Especially the amazing garden wall with all its little details,” said @jackieknockout in another comment.
“Add to my regrets in life: I did not meet the owner of this place before he/she passed,” said @shellyamoon.
