China’s largest steel maker has warned that Australia’s escalating tariffs risk undermining its own emissions targets and Future Made in Australia agenda, as the federal government increased import duties on another Chinese steel product.
Baosteel, a subsidiary of state-owned giant Baowu, last week requested the Anti-Dumping Commission exempt its “green steel” products from preliminary 37 per cent tariffs on hot-rolled coil steel, arguing there were no equivalent goods for sale in Australia, and they were vital for the construction industry’s decarbonisation goals.
