CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas women’s basketball team is back in action after having its previous game postponed due to COVID protocols. Back in the Bluegrass State, the Sugar Bears will take on the Bellarmine Knights Wednesday night. Tip-off at Freedom Hall is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
Looking for their first ASUN win, the Sugar Bears dropped their conference opener last Wednesday, falling to Eastern Kentucky via a 46-61 final. Lucy Ibeh secured her sixth double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down rebounds. Over her last four games, Ibeh is averaging 18.8 points and 14 rebounds per game, notching three double-doubles over that span.
With her recent outings, Ibeh now finds herself at fifth in the conference in scoring at 14.9 points per game, while leading the ASUN in rebounding at 10.5 boards per outing. Her six double-doubles on the season are tied for first in the conference, and top-30 in the nation.
Freshman Randrea Wright entered the week having come away with a career-best five steals against the Colonels. Currently the third-highest scorer on the team, the Birmingham, Ala., native averages 8.3 points per contest, leading the team with 27 assists on the year.
Bellarmine hosts the Sugar Bears after dropping its last two outings, both ASUN games. Most recently, the Knights suffered a 47-61 defeat to Eastern Kentucky, keeping it close until a 21-9 fourth quarter allowed the Colonels to pull away at the end. Bailee Harney scored 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers and two free throws.
Jaela Johnson leads the team in scoring, with 13.6 points per game, netting double-figures eight times this year. Sheniqua Coatney tops the roster in rebounding, pulling down 6.0 boards per contest, as well as blocks, with 14. Coatney also has eight-straight games with at least one steal.
Head coach of the Knights is Chancellor Dugan , now in her 10th season. Dugan saw Bellarmine make the jump to Division I, with last season being the first season at the new level. Bellarmine went 5-17 last season, winning all five games in ASUN play.
