According to India’s National of Nutrition (NIN), falling under the guidelines to tackle high sugar content in packaged foods and beverages. As per the new guidelines, the expert committee at NIN has set specific limits on sugar content. From solid foods, the proposed threshold is about 5 per cent of total energy intake from added sugar, with a maximum of 10 per cent from all sugar contents.

The shift in focus from higher calorie intake to reducing the sugar content levels is due the concerning factors like impact on health, excessive amount of sugar consumption harms the body. According to the data for daily sugar intake up to 65 per cent of adults living in the United States.
