The Apprentice’s Harry gets fired first as Lord Sugar lands in hot water for ‘wrong’ decision

Lord Alan Sugar has landed in hot water with viewers of The Apprentice over who he fired first from the new series after Harry Mahmood got the chop.

After waiting for over two years for its return, fans of the hit BBC show finally saw their patience rewarded on Thursday night when the first episode on the new run proved to be TV gold for all the wrong reasons.

In one of the best opening tasks in Apprentice history, after being split into Boys and Girls teams, the new batch of candidates had to board a luxury cruise liner and then come up with them own cruise package, complete with brand name, logo and TV and social media adverts.

The girls raised eyebrows with their Bouji branding and green screen disaster, while their chosen name Neverending Nautical proved to be the tip of the iceberg when it came to the lads’ costly errors.

On seeing their rather interesting looking logo in the boardroom, Lord Sugar described it as something he’d “call Dyno-Rod out for,” and in the end it was the Boys who had to face the music after the head honcho told them the Girls’ won because “there was synergy in their campaign.”

After thrashing out where things went wrong in front of Lord Sugar and his advisers Karren Brady and Tim Campbell, a replacement for Claude Littner, project manager Ashkay had to pick two of his team to join him in the final reckoning, opting for Harry and Akeem.

And, while it looked for a while that it might be Ashkay who’d get his marching orders it ended up being Harry who was first to get the boot in 2022.

Teeing him up for a firing in a rather cruel manner, Lord Sugar told him: “You say your mantra is if life doesn’t come knocking you build a door.

“Well it is regretful Harry that I’m about to show you where that door is. So Harry, it is with regret…you’re fired.”

Lord Sugar told Ashkay and Akeem they “got away with murder” and many viewers on Twitter agreed with him, arguing that the Lord got it all wrong.

One ranted: “Akshay from the apprentice deserves to go. Not Harry. Akshays attitude stank,” and in agreement, another tweeted: “Shocking start to the apprentice a bunch of idiots, feel for Harry though he was the scapegoat massively there. Lord sugar made the wrong decision in my eyes. He was only one who said no to logo which is why they failed!”
