HARRISBURG — Headlined by three silver medalists, seventeen Berks wrestlers placed at the District 3 Class 2A Tournament on Saturday at Central Dauphin East.
Berks Catholic’s Gabriel Davis and Brody Kline as well as Wyomissing’s Caleb Brewer all won silver. By finishing in the top seven, 15 Berks wrestlers earned spots in the Southeast Regional Tournament, which will take place March 4-5 at Bethlehem Liberty High School.
At 172, Davis was defeated by Trinity’s Jagger Gray in the championship bout. At 215, Kline lost 7-2 to West Perry’s Brad Morrison in the championship bout. At 285, Brewer was pinned by Bishop McDevitt’s Riley Robel at 41 seconds in the championship bout.
Berks Catholic’s Brayden Hartranft finished third at 106. He beat Susquenita’s Kale Quigley 6-3 in the third-place bout.
Brandywine Heights’ Jacob Deysher finished third at 120. He defeated Upper Dauphin’s Jonah Peterson 1-0 in the third-place bout.
Deysher was the District 3 runner-up at 106 each of the last two years. He qualified for states last year.
Berks Catholic’s Marvin Armistead pinned Schuylkill Valley’s Ian Vitalo at 1:42 in the 132 third-place bout.
Berks Catholic’s Carmine Lenzi finished third at 138. He pinned Columbia’s Stoudamire Campbell at 1:18 in the third-place bout.
Saints’ Mason Iswalt finished fourth at 285. He lost 3-1 to Upper Dauphin’s Peyton Wentzel in the third-place bout.
Hamburg’s Charles Sheppard finished fifth at 285. He pinned Boiling Springs’ Julyan Dodson at 1:15 in the fifth-place bout.
The Saints’ Christopher Smith finished sixth at 113. He lost to Upper Dauphin’s Jordan Pieffer by fall at 53 seconds in the fifth-place bout.
Berks Catholics’ John Maurer finished sixth at 145. He lost 3-1 to Biglerville’s Seth Lady in the fifth-place bout.
Hamburg’s Daregan Motto finished sixth at 215. He was pinned by Lancaster Catholic’s Ben Reigner at 56 seconds in the fifth-place bout
Brandywine Heights’ Dillon Reinert finished seventh at 126. He defeated Bishop McDevitt’s Hunter Wagner 10-2 in the seventh-place bout.
Reinert won the District 3 113-pound title last year. He also qualified for the state tournament each of the last two years.
Berks Catholic’s Timothy Saylor finished seventh at 189. He beat West Perry’s Quade Boden 7-1 in the seventh place bout.
Brandywine Heights’ Jacob Greiss finished eighth at 106. He lost to Columbia’s Loudon Rupp by fall at 4:48 in the seventh-place bout.
Brandywine Heights’ Joshua Sterner finished eighth at 138. He lost to Delone Catholic’s by fall at 1:30 in the seventh-place bout.
